About Us

Karen from Sound Spirit Yoga

Karen from Sound Spirit Yoga has practised yoga, meditation and a healthy approach living since her early 20s after discovering a Yoga ashram near Bellingen in the late 90s. There she attended several intensive yoga, meditation and chanting programs, which inspired her to continue pursuing the deeper more transformational experiences that the more traditional and holistic styles of yoga can offer.

This journey included attendance at the Mangrove Yoga Academy where she completed an internationally recognised Advanced Diploma of Yogic Studies (Level 2) in 2008.

Karen has been teaching regular classes and workshops since this time where she shares the traditional teachings of yoga and brings together the modern scientific understanding and ancient teachings into a form of practice that is relevant for the everyday person, advanced or beginner. She is a sought after guest teacher for retreats and workshops.

Her passion is teaching yoga as an internal journey of awareness, body movements, pranic (life force) awakening and deep stillness. Karen interweaves the techniques of nada yoga (the yoga of sound/music) mantra, asana (postures) pranayama (pranic breath work) and mindfulness to support a holistic and healing experience.

Ben from Sound Spirit Yoga

Ben

benface

At 10 years of age Ben became unwell and was diagnosed with a rare liver condition. Over the next 10 years he suffered a range of illnesses that became increasingly severe such as eczema, allergies, benign growths, hormonal issues, depression and life-threatening recurrent infections. Also his liver function slowly deteriorated requiring higher doses of medication compounding the issues.

Ben has now overcome all of the chronic and life threatening diseases that he was suffering from mostly using natural modalities.
He is inspired and passionate about offering some of these techniques for you to experience the benefits too. Having explored a wide range of natural health techniques, he has discovered that yoga (which includes meditation) is one of the most powerful tools for recovering from illness and maintaining good health.

Ben has completed one of the most comprehensive yoga and meditation qualifications in Australia (a two year full time Diploma). He has practiced meditation from the age of 19 including completing a 10 day silent vipasana retreat and has spent 3 months in India visiting numerous spiritual centres.

More recently he has just finished teaching a 2 year stint at a drug and alcohol rehab for men.
