ALSO - INDIAN MUSIC WORKSHOP (see below)

This exciting bansuri & tabla concert features two virtuoso musicians from very different cultural backgrounds. Sharing a profound love of Indian music, Vinod & Glen have captivated audiences in Australia & India.

From the sublimely meditative to cascading unison passages, their dynamic performance will definitely leave you spellbound!

Born into one of India’s greatest flute-playing families, award-winning bansuri maestro Vinod Prasanna shines as an outstanding performer of authentic traditional and contemporary Indian music, and as heir to the musical treasure of his ancestors. Vinod commands the stage with grace and tenacity, via captivating passion, technical brilliance and a wonderful performance style. Hailing from Varanasi, one of India’s holy cities, Vinod’s late grandfather Pandit Vishnu Prasanna introduced him to the art of bansuri playing. His uncle, Pandit Rajendra Prasanna, also taught him and further inspired his playing.

Based in Australia since 2008, Vinod is recognised as an unrivalled Bansuri master.

Australian tabla player Glen Kniebeiss has devoted himself to tabla for more than twelve years. He has studied with great masters in India, including Ustad Anthony Dass, Pandit Ishwar Lal Mishra, Pandit Lacchu Maharaj, Sri Umakanta Dash, and Sri Pankaj Kumar. His playing style is emotional and expressive, with subtle nuance and a very clear sound.

In 2003 Glen received funding from the Australia Council for the Arts and the Ian Potter Cultural trust for tabla studies in India. Glen spent 2004 -05 as an artist in residence at “Dunmoochin”, Clifton Pugh’s estate in outer Melbourne. In 2010 Glen again received funding from the Australia council for the Arts, for tabla studies with Pandit Ishwar Lal Mishra in Varanasi, India. Glen also has a music performance degree from the Victorian College of the Arts. He has made many CD recordings which are regularly featured on radio, and his music has been featured in several documentaries. Glen is one of the finest tabla accompanists in Australia, and often performs with visiting artists such as sitar maestro Pandit Debiprasad Chatterjee, Raka Mukherjee, Sangeet Mishra and others.
