indian classical music

Traditional music from India is usually classed as Indian Classical Music or ICM. It is quite incomparable to any other form of music. The main features are:

  • based on improvisation
  • ornamentation of notes and use of microtones
  • spiritual connection integrating with yoga
  • raag and alaap
  • rhythm and melody patterns
  • 7 basic (unfixed/movable) notes: Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni
  • Scales are movable and relative to the start note (Sa).
